First Timer
Have you decided to go to an international JCI congress for the first time? Congratulations, you have made a good decision! Are there still any doubts because you do not know what to expect? No problem, there’s a first time for everybody! Got more questions? Send us an email via the contact form. We are ready to answer your questions!
In order for you to get started, you’ll find some hints below:
Clothing
For the majority of the Congress you can easily wear casual.
Some activities do expect other outfits:
- For everybody who goes to the congress, JCI Belgium will provide a Polo Shirt “BXL 2011 ‘, assuming that you do not already have one. You can also buy more if you so desired. This we will certainly wear to the Opening Ceremony .
- On a number of activities such as the General Assembly, the dress code is business. Also if you participate in the debating competition, training or a meeting of local presidents, a business outfit is highly recommended. If you just come to watch the debate, you can go in casual. So if you take a business outfit with you, you always play it safe.
- For the award ceremony and gala on Saturday evening you’ll need a tuxedo or ball gown. If that’s not in your closet, wear a nice suit or dress, it will certainly not leave you standing at the door.
First Timers Competition
As a First Timer you can compete in the “First Timers Competition”. This is a competition which runs throughout the entire congress, with all sorts of tasks. Gain as much points as possible and perhaps we’ll be celebration you during the awards ceremony!
Curious? Look for the “First Timers Briefing” and go there, because you get all the info.
Did you know that at the European Conference in Maastricht (2007) one of our Belgian First Timers (Annelies Quaegebeur of JCI West-Brabant) was the big winner? Feel free to ask her for advice! The same applies to Pepijn Raeymaekers (JCI Lier). At the World Congress in Copenhagen he has snatched the prize (2003) and Dauwe Marijke (JCI West-Brabant) did the same in Lausanne during the EC of 2006.
